Student Internship Stories: Noemie Zazueta (COM’25)

Noemie Zazueta (COM ’25) participated in her internship at the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) in Panama City, Panama during the summer of 2023.

How did you learn about this internship opportunity? What career resources from BU or elsewhere did you use during the application and interview process?
I learned about this internship because I had done a school project about the organization. I used the Center for Career Development before the application process to familiarize myself with the internship process.

Why did you choose to apply for this particular internship?
I chose this particular internship because I like the work the organization does and the issues it tackles.

What were your job responsibilities as an intern?
Take photographs, film, produce videos for social media and the webpage, write reports, and translate high-level meetings.

What was the most rewarding part of your internship?
Being able to work on what I enjoy and is relevant to my majors.

What was the most challenging part of your internship?
The intensity of having event after event.

What skills, technical or soft, did you develop during your internship?
I learned the inner workings of a political organization and developed translation skills as well as the ability to write professional reports.

What was the most memorable moment of your experience?
I had the opportunity to go to the II Global Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition in Chile.

What is the biggest takeaway from your internship experience?
This was my first real-world work experience, and it has given me the confidence that I have the ability to work at a professional level.

Is there anything you wish you would have done differently during your internship?
I am happy with the work I did.

What advice would you give to another student about making the most of an internship, job, or other career-related experience?
Try and find work you enjoy because that is when you will do your best work.
