This summer, the CCD was lucky enough to visit Optum as part of its employer site visit program.
Optum, a UnitedHealth Group company, is a leading health services and innovation company dedicated to helping make the health system work better for everyone. With more than 115,000 people worldwide, Optum combines technology, data and expertise to improve the delivery, quality and efficiency of health care.
As part of their student talent development efforts, Optum recruits at many Boston University events, including the Engineering Career Fair and Computer Science Day. They have been pleased to host a number of BU interns who participate in exciting programs.
“To be successful in an internship at Optum, we recommend that you have a passion for healthcare and for helping people live healthier lives,” said Kate Pacheco, college recruiter. “Our interns want to help make the health system better by working on new ideas.”
One of the many innovations in an Optum internship is the ‘Shark Tank’ program.
“Our interns are tasked with projects in teams of 5-8, and they are given an issue that our business or industry is facing,” Pacheco said. “They work with mentors and pitch their progress in a Shark Tank format, some of which are adopted by Optum as ongoing projects.”
“We want students who will be proactive in their courses, but what really matters to us is that passion,” Pacheco said.
Optum is currently seeking interns and full-time employees. For more information on Optum, visit Handshake.
