Lower Camp Counselor
CCD: Tell us about your work experience. What were your responsibilities?
MK: Provided sports related activities, such as rock climbing, indoor swimming, yoga, and basic running games to children (age 5 to 9). Read child friendly books to young children during snack time and lead them to field trips with other counselors.
CCD: How did you get the position? What resources at BU or elsewhere did you use?
MK: I found the position at the BU job posting site located at the student link.
CCD: What was the best thing about the experience?
MK: Most counselors were either current BU students or graduated BU students, so it was a nice opportunity to get to know other BU students. During the camp, I worked with a variety of young children and it helped me to expend my knowledge of how to support individual children equally and how to provide learning opportunities through different kinds of sports and activities.
CCD: What was the most memorable moment of your experience?
MK: The most memorable moment was when one of my campers drew a picture of me and gave me the biggest hug. I still cannot forget the day when this happened and I miss all of my campers and co-counselors.
CCD: What advice would you give to another student about making the most of an internship or job experience?
MK: Always interact with other workers. To me, my co counselors were the greatest resources. They helped me a lot throughout the camp and supported me with things that I needed. In addition to that, don’t be afraid to talk to your director or manager about your concerns or questions. In my experience, my director was kind, generous, and amazing.
