ENG ’18 | Computer Engineering
Software Engineering Intern
CCD: Tell us about your internship experience. What were your responsibilities?
Patrick: I worked on OpenShift Online, which is a cloud computing platform. I wrote software to make improvements to the new user registration process.
CCD: How did you find the position? What helped you get it?
Patrick: Red Hat hosted an event at BU. I made a connection with one of the Red Hat managers at the event and followed up with him. Subsequently there was an intensive interview process.
CCD: What is one challenge you encountered during your summer experience and how did you manage it?
Patrick: Initially I felt like other interns were working on projects that were more interesting than mine. I decided to focus on the positive aspects of what I was learning and really started to enjoy my project.
CCD: What advice would you give to another student about making the most of an internship experience?
Patrick: Deliver a good work result and make a good personal impression. Act like a new employee rather than lumping yourself in with other interns. Participate in as many different activities as possible, even if they are out of your comfort zone.
