Public Relations Intern
CCD: Tell us about your internship experience. What were your responsibilities?
Claire: I assisted with re-branding efforts, interviewed families and produced videos, drafted letters and emails, supported families going through a difficult time, updated website logos and events, and orchestrated fundraising events.
CCD: What was the most memorable moment of your internship?
Claire: The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) had an event where NFL Hall of Fame players came to the Ronald McDonald House and met the kids staying there and their families. After this, the NFL players came to a fundraising dinner for RMHC and then to a golf tournament the next day. Seeing the players with the kids and families was priceless and helping to orchestrate an event with high profile individuals was a great learning experience.
CCD: How has this experience changed your future plans?
Claire: While I was at a Ronald McDonald House Charities board meeting, the head of development for Albany Medical Center gave a presentation. He talked about how the development team is planning to build a new pediatric emergency wing. After hearing his presentation, and seeing first hand how important hospitals are for the families and their children staying at the Ronald McDonald House, I realized I want to do something in the hospital/medical development field.
CCD: What advice would you give to another student about making the most of a summer experience?
Claire: I would tell another student to talk to as many people as possible during their internship. I think having informative interviews and casual conversations with my coworkers and supervisor taught me a lot about work/life balance, navigating through different jobs, and other life advice. I definitely learned the most from my coworkers and supervisor.
