Research Trainee
CCD: Tell us about your internship experience. What were your responsibilities?
Jasmine: I processed, inventoried, aliquoted, and organized samples of blood, urine, and saliva from patients with and without endometriosis for endometriosis research and repositories at the Boston Center for Endometriosis. I also helped organize and store samples for ovarian cancer research and performed data entry tasks.
CCD: What surprised you about your internship experience?
Jasmine: I did not think that the principal researchers would take as much time as they did to truly help me understand the study’s purpose and the contributions of my time. I was surprised at how involved they allowed me to be as an unpaid intern.
CCD: What is one challenge you encountered during your internship and how did you manage it?
Jasmine: I was really nervous about processing samples on my own after watching a researcher perform the task only twice. I went slow and made sure to ask questions if I truly needed help, and surprisingly I was able to remember a lot more than I thought I would.
