Design & Media Intern
During the summer of 2014, Jonathan Candelaria completed a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, and landed an internship with Digital Suggar as their Design & Media Intern.
CCD: Tell us about your experience at Digital Suggar.
Jonathan: I was responsible for designing and revamping websites for Spanish companies, as well as overseeing visuals for organizations.
CCD: How did you find this internship?
Jonathan: I was placed in the internship by EUSA through the BU Study Abroad Madrid Internship Program.
CCD: What is one thing you have learned that will benefit any future internships or other hands-on experiences?
Jonathan: Despite the fact that Spanish is my first language, using it in a professional setting provided many challenges. I knew exactly what I wanted to say in English, and it took confidence to put myself out there so I could be heard. I’ve taken that experience to teach myself that I have opinions and contributions that others can benefit from.
CCD: What are the top three skills you have learned from this experience?
Jonathan: Communication, confidence, and patience.
CCD: What advice would you give to another student about making the most of a summer experience?
Jonathan: Don’t take the experience for granted. Take in every moment, pick the brains of the individuals who surround you, and never (seriously, never) be afraid to ask a question.
